Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

Big difference between sailing, adventuresome parenting, etc and making poor decisions that will put your family in danger.

Speak for yourself! I raised mine on Guinness & micro-brews. First time my 3-year old was in a restaurant she tried to order a Guinness. My plan was they would learn to like good (unaffordable) beer and would therefore skip the Badwheezer. They discovered that Founders was available at U of M in kegs.

Thanks for the posting. Its about time for some push-back.

We take guests any time we can. One hot day 7 dads & daughter Indian Princesses showed up. 27 total people. Glad they brought jackets.

Just biding our time waiting for CPS to show up. We plan to bring our grandson with us this summer from Marquette to Muskegon. He's looking forward to watching the dolphins from the pulpit.

Living off the "grid" comes in many choices. Deep in the mountains and cruising.

You know, the forum only allows 12 images/post!

Notice, not a single hand-held internet device. These young people are all fun to be with & they are comfortable with adults - nice.

Absolute horrid conditions for a child. I think CPS is calling right now. What kind of a father am I for putting my child in such eminent danger.

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

Yeah, it's really annoying when 5 year olds keep trying to learn points of sail and how to use the chart plotter and they keep messing around with the autohelm. They should really stay home.

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

Umm I would like to address the child and diseases issue. Children only pick up what you expose them too. Our oldest son got Gardia from drinking in rain puddles. My youngest used to seek out cow poo in his cowboy boots because "cowboys aren't afraid of a little sh$t" But the real kicker is the day care center. Absolute wonderland of microbes and disease. I bet full time cruising children don't pick up as much because mom and dad don't put them in daycare. Only parents out there can confirm this, but I bet its true.
Now I understand if you have to work and put your kids in one of these outlets. But don't be surprised if they come home and give it too you. Kinda like working in hospitals (my infection is getting better thank you)

We always braced ourselves when our kids started day care or kindergarten. We were usually sick within 2 weeks.

Reasons to ban children from cruising!

I've fished with my boy for years and sailed with him for the past 2. He always helps with maintenance also. No way he could be banned from a boat he's sweat and bled on.
