Re: Rabbits

It's got nothing to do with boats and the thread might be 10 years old but I have a rabbit story I'd like to tell.

Australia has had the odd problem with rabbits and one of the few successful biological warfare instances was there destruction during the fiftees. Consequently there is a degree of sensitivity in rural areas regarding rabbits and it is not unusual to see warning signs regarding the tens of thousands of dollar fines related to the transport of rabbits into certain areas.

In my youth I went through a motorcycle phase.

I was roaring up a twisty mountain road, came around a hairpin bend and there was a boom gate. An old man with a walking stick doddered out of the attached guard box and demanded of me, did I have any rabbits.

I replied with the question, where the hell I would one secrete a rabbit on a motorcycle.

His reply to that was that I would be amazed at where cunning and devious rabbit smugglers would secrete a rabbit.

My response was another question, who the hell would smuggle rabbits.

In a voice dripping with scorn and contempt he replied RABBIT BREEDERS.

Re: Rabbits

My friend had a pet one, thing was huge, way bigger than a house cat.
He was holding it and my Doberman pincher just had to get a sniff and jumped up to smell it.
I never knew rabbits could scream, this one did scared the beezus out of me and the dog, the dog fell on his back trying to get away.
Really, I had never heard one make a sound til that day, and I swear it sounded like a scream.

cruising the french waterways ,we regularly had a rabbit on the boat.......
indeed they were easy to catch on the canal banks, and fit easily into the pressure cooker

Re: Rabbits

I guess that if one was driven to the extremity wherein one had to eat the pet our western aversion to eating cats or dogs would not be as severe in the case of a rabbit.
