Quarantine in New Caledonia

Does anyone have experience having a pet (Dog) aboard when arriving in Noumea. We will be coming from Australia. I know there is a 10 day Quarantine period and am curious as to whether that period can be satisfied by the animal staying on board. What action is needed? I am also aware a permit is required and a vet inspection on arrival, current vaccination certificates and a Pet Passport is desirable. I have read that this has happened before. quarantine is about 20 days , not allowed on board, there is a special place in Paita near Nouméa, it cost some money per day.
need a pet passport with some special vaccination,

Two years ago, our dog had to do 10 days quarantine in an approved New Caledonia facility. Our dog was not allowed to do quarantine on board.

We had sailed from NZ to Vanuatu to New Caledonia.

You need to contact NC well in advance, through email to inform them of your arrival plans. They will tell you what to do.

Just curious, how much hassle is it to get the mutt back into Australia?

According to Australian Government website there is no problem for pets entering Australia from New Zealand and New Caledonia being Rabies free countries.

Thanks, I did'nt realise it was that easy. After watching lots of Border Patrol TV I thought it would be a real drama? Has anyone on this forum actually brought a dog into Bundaberg or Brisbane?

I recall a movie actor bringing some mutts into Australia without allegedly following the correct protocols. The ensuing front page drama ended up in a very expensive court case. The tabloids went ballistic. Australia does have very strict conditions that MUST be met.

Import from US requires a permit as does most of the South pacific Islands No Quarantine as i read it. Entry from New Zealand does not require a permit or Quarantine only relevant Identification and vaccination documents. Cats and Dogs. Be good to hear from someone with recent experience. Slightly off topic but where does Mutly poop? I'd love to take my dog sailing but am a little concerned about managing the by-products.

Early training to use small patches of artificial turf in strategic locations on deck. Easy! Back on track it seems that quarantine procedure in NC of 10 days confinement in cage with some access to a reasonable grassed area for a period each day is ok but with no contact allowed between pet and owners could be a bit traumatic for that close member of ones family. viz; Arrive Noumea and immediately off to 10 day confinement with no contact allowed! Hoping a better solution can be found. NZ looks good with no confinement required if all paperwork fulfilled. Really like to hear from someone who has Cruised with a pet on board. Cheers Ariki Tai
