Thumbs up Ponyo the Movie

Ponyo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Beware: ‘Plot” section contains serious spoilers!)

I just discovered this great kid’s movie and my four year old daughter loved it. It has some nice ocean themes and is rated G; a perfect film to keep the kids (and adults) happy on a miserable day at home or at sea.

I have the original Japanese release, which also has an English soundtrack option. It seems the Disney version is readily available in America.

Enjoy!

As with all of Miyazaki's other films Ponyo was great. And more importantly, my daughter loved it.

Ponyo actually scared the heck out of my 5 year old son (the dad in the movie was too menacing for him) but I think it was a cool movie anyhow. We LOVE other films by Myazaki like Totoro and Kiki.

In the Japanese version the father is balanced against a very compassionate mother. Regardless, it is the ocean themes I enjoyed most, as did my daughter.

Before this my daughter could not stop watching My Neighbor Totoro, which is an excellent Miyazaki film that contains more big fluffy creatures and very little if not no animated “violence”.
