One Year to Go

Howdy,

I would like some advice on finding a good family cruising boat. There are four of us - kids are 11 & 12 - and a dog. We have been planning on going cruising for the past 5 years. We are able to leave in June 2010.

Our budget is in the 60-65k range. We're planning on leaving from the east coast (Charleston/Savannah) and making our way down the east coast and thru the Caribbean to Panama and back. We'd like to be gone for at least a year. Racing/long crossings are not important - liveaboard comfort and reliability, is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The Teague/Thompsons

Hi there! There are a ton of threads on suitable boats here. Not to sound too obvious but in the search menu there is a special Google search that performs like google but right here in CF.

I think you are also fortunate in that you are already near the water so you should be able to get out a kick a few tires.

60-65k might be tight for 4 people and a dog but definitely not beyond impossible.

What kind of boats have you been looking at?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking the time to answer us. I will check out the search button that you suggested. We have not looked at any boats in person; we've just been looking at boats on boats.com, etc. We'd love to find something with 3 staterooms so that we can all have a "space" of our own. There is a Dynamique Express 44 in FL that meets this requirement but I know nothing about them.
