Menina, this is only my opinion, but if you truly want a monkey as a pet, I believe that you dont understand animals very well. Please dont support primate breeders or poachers, and if you REALLY like monkeys, sail to someplace warm that has monkeys you can visit in the wild.

We had a wild one on the top of the mast for less than 18 hours and the mess was enough to put me off monkeys on board.

No problem... They tast like chicken. Really! Vist them in the wild where they are much fun and no hassel. There are cities in the world where they are protected and the folks livng there would do anything to get rid of them but cannot.

We knew an eccentric older couple that lived aboard an old boat in Sausalito back in the '60's that had a Spider Monkey as a pet. (The boat smelled like an outhouse.) From time to time the animal would climb their's and the rigging on adjoining boats and refuse to come down. Any effort to retrieve the animal, and in fact, any activity that seemed to disturb or excite it, resulted in the creature hurling feces with remarkable accuracy, frequently at unsuspecting passer's by. We learned to avoid D-Dock at all costs.

Monkeys do not make good pets!! It's like caring for an infant 24-7...one that NEVER grows up. And yes, they will get into everything and require vaccines, neutering for males and proper diets for starters. I'm sure it would be a great way to get the attention of customs officials as well. I deal with a lot of exotic animals in the vet practice where I work and believe me...once you know these animals you learn to keep the wild in your heart not your home!!!!

The other aspect of monkeys are they are extremely expensive to keep. I recall one we had in at the clinic and which had suffered a head injury, and we had to consult a neurologist during the coarse of treatment. I kept a spider monkey for a friend of mine, and nearly went insane, and that was only after ten days.
