Totally agree, and have been very frustrated and people thinking they know better. It is my boat and I will tie her up how I want. If other do not like it - tough.

I have had perfect alongsides wrecked by some *****hole grabbing the bow rope and ignoring where I want it, and then securing it so tight that the stern will never get close to the shore.

Dont bother with this these days, I lasso a single cleat with a rope from a misdhips cleat. This brings the boat alongside, and will keep her there with the engines running ahead whatever the wind, and allow me to leisurely secure my boat how I want her.

i also do the midship cleat thing, it works. if someone wants to grab a bow line, it will be sent to them, and if someone wants to grab a stern line, it will be sent to them.. but i find these big heavy bricks like to have midships line first, then the rest. they stay put best that way. and i have to check the lines i didnt secure. sometimes they aren't secure at all.....sometimes i use a long enough line midships to use for a stern spring line, and then tie off bow
