IR gun and the Blues Kid

17 month old fella spent the last couple nights onboard. My son called 2 nights ago reporting the mild cough and sneezing had progressed to fever. 101degrees. Grandma took over.

They slept on the settee and I did my best to monitor his temp. He didn't like me using the ear thermometer while he was sleeping or even touching his face.

The next morning I ran to Home Depot and picked up and inexpensive IR gun and Motrin from the pharmacy.

I've heard the laser can damage a retina so I turn it off and check his forehead. Temps varied from normal to 101 yesterday.

The baby has been blowing a harmonica for a while. His dad and I play and he insists on blowing a harp whenever we do. He's a lot of fun at jam sessions.

I slipped in to ck on them before dawn this morning and could feel the heat coming from the soles of the boys feet. 103 degrees.

Sponge baths and a few minutes soaking in the galley sink and an hour later and the boy is dancing and singing to Ray Charles doing "What I Say" on the seat cushion.

The mamas think it's a combination teething and head cold. I just blow the harp quietly and do what I'm told.

Hey, Eric,

Nice story.

It can get scary if the temps get over 104 (F).

Yeah, scary stuff! I like the IR thermometer for the little one, can track a fever spiking and easing pretty well. Nice to know a standard IR gun can work as well.

Re: IR gun and the Blues Kid

He had a tough day. Had an allergic reaction to the Ibuprofen so swapped to acetaminophen. Had to give antihistamine for itching and swelling.

Temp is normal now but was 103 a few hours ago. He and grandma cuddling on settee.

Resilient youngun. As soon as his fever drops he is up and looking for trouble. Had him giggling like a lunatic by letting rip a small chip clip from my whiskers and eyebrows while I howled like it hurt.

His grandma says its a male thing.

Thanks Ann.

I had a nephew that use to spike high temps and go into convulsions on a regular basis when he was a toddler. We watched him like a hawk when he was feeling poorly.

Ur right. Fevers scare me with the little ones. Even if it is to be expected.

I worked in the emergency room for a number of years. Adult temperature gets serious at 104 and above, infants are good up to 107, anything above that needs cooling down to avoid complications.

The kid is going to sleep with his dad tonight. Fever down and he seems perky.

I get to tear down my G harp and look for cookie crumbs. A couple of reeds stuck. I wonder how that happened?
