It never even occured to me that 66 crossing oceans was anything unusual anymore, but it is compared to the expectations of landlubbers.
I look at the likes of Jim and Anne Cate who post here on CF. Full time liveaboards and crossing oceans into their 70s.
Many retire at 65ish and then start their open ended cruising.
I really do believe that attitude to life and sensible
health make it fairly normal... plus the inspiration of the likes of the Cates and Banyandah.
Also the guy who was mentioned here on CF recently who has completed his 3rd
circumnavigation and is now going to stick to more localised sailing... seeing as he is 89!
We plan to be sailing full time by the end of this year, and I sure as hell don't see it as something we'll be doing for only 2 years.
So Doodles, 66 isn't that old anymore. If in reasonable
health at 66 we can reasonably expect another good 20 years... the equivalent of a 20 year old kid looking at what he will do and achieve by 40... he could have a total career, make a fortune and retire by then.
So, in spite of a daughter wanting to know if I cried when the last dinasaur died, and a son wanting to know what it was like using steam telephones... we early baby boomers are just getting started... cheeky little bastards
