I'm Now 66 and Still Cross Oceans

After being slugged when crossing the Great Australian Bight, Banyandah has had one of it's best ever cruises from Portland across Bass Strait to King Island and Tasmania.

Blog has been update - story and lots of photos

We knew what you meant.

I don't think thread titles can be edited.

Post contents can be edited for 30 minutes after posting, then the edit button goes away. I don't think I've ever posted without going back two minutes later and correcting something.

I noticed I typed "now" instead of "no" in a post earlier and can't fix it now. Oh well.

You have a limited time to edit posts but a request using the "report" icon at the lower left (triangle icon) will send a post to all moderators. We would all be happy to fix anything you think would help.

When you edit, click on the "go advanced" option,, it works for me.
My posts and typos are appalling, so it's served me well.

The Firefox spell checker works quite well in quick reply. Where I have trouble is in Internet Explorer with iespell. Spell checking helps me a lot to rethink posts and find other errors besides spelling.

Is it just me or does 66 not seem that old anymore? And isn't 70 suppose to be the new 50?

We're all getting younger every day as life expectancy is extended.

It never even occured to me that 66 crossing oceans was anything unusual anymore, but it is compared to the expectations of landlubbers.

I look at the likes of Jim and Anne Cate who post here on CF. Full time liveaboards and crossing oceans into their 70s.

Many retire at 65ish and then start their open ended cruising.
I really do believe that attitude to life and sensible health make it fairly normal... plus the inspiration of the likes of the Cates and Banyandah.
Also the guy who was mentioned here on CF recently who has completed his 3rd circumnavigation and is now going to stick to more localised sailing... seeing as he is 89!

We plan to be sailing full time by the end of this year, and I sure as hell don't see it as something we'll be doing for only 2 years.

So Doodles, 66 isn't that old anymore. If in reasonable health at 66 we can reasonably expect another good 20 years... the equivalent of a 20 year old kid looking at what he will do and achieve by 40... he could have a total career, make a fortune and retire by then.

So, in spite of a daughter wanting to know if I cried when the last dinasaur died, and a son wanting to know what it was like using steam telephones... we early baby boomers are just getting started... cheeky little bastards
