I have to make sure that I don't whine when I get out of the cockpit lockers. But I have a young shipwright say that he wanted to be me when he grows up. :-)

Hands up all those over sixty...
Just as I thought, I'm the only one. When most retirees are thinking of their gardens, there are a few with good enough balance and stamina who sail across oceans either solo or with their aged partners. Now its a fact. Some oceans are easy with constant trade winds and smallish swell, but in the higher latitudes, few sailors of any age are taking on the challenge.
This last year we've crossed the great southern ocean in both directions. Our years of experience saw us safely across even though it blew a gale for more days than not. Modern gear helps.
We are getting our book, Two's a Crew, ready for US publication. Let you know when its out. Cheers all. Back around Tasmania next summer.

Ha! No way, there are quite a few of us now over 60 I'm afraid. What's the latest saying ... 70 is the new 50.

Someone pointed me to this guy's blog the other day ... 70+ and cruising the oceans singlehanded in his Seawind cat.

Thanks Doodles, clicked the link and am reading up on Dejavu. On our Aussie circumnavigation we met a veteran sailor, a true Aussie legend, and we were so impressed by this man's achievements we included him in our book, Two's a Crew. That story we posted on this site, and tells the story of a man who has sailed solo around the Horn at 75 !

I sure hope we can all still cross oceans at the young age of 66
