Wanna be cruisers - not married, committed. Bought our first sailboat together in December 2010. We are preparing to live aboard and cruise.

Married 6 years. We never had pre-marriage talks about fin vs full keel sailboats, which anchors are best, or who is whose boss underway, lol! Those things just seem to work themselves out because we're just two like-minded kids with a love for adventure having fun in life! I can't think of a dream of Jody's that I wouldn't be also thrilled about, and vice versa. Cruising isn't the big picture item for us, living happily together is. Gotta put "A" before "B"!

Married now - on Jan 4th. Actually, we also got married on Jan 4th 10 years ago, but poncy embassies wouldn't accept it, just 'cos it was a hindu marriage, and neither of us are hindus...

I wonder what would the response be if we posted a "How many cruisers wished they were married" thread?
How about "How many cruisers wished they were married that are married"?

Much as I hate generaliztions; women seem to tip the scales on the security side of things and men on the freedom side. Whether either can live up to the responsibility of changing their partners course in life and their own choice seems to be an individual thing.

It's called a generalization for a reason. Women, in general, are less inclined than men to want to live in this environment. If you do, you are an exception. There's nothing wrong with admitting that. No need to get your hackles up about it.

I guess.... if you want a happy sailing partner, first l find good crew and,...... if it works out, marry her/him

happy sailing partner? good advice about marrying crew member if you want legal marriage to someone who likes living on boat,,i compare living on boat to camping and i also like hottubs and comfortable beds same as my mate,,truth be told i have met men whose wives left the boat lifestyle and returned to the city lfestyle same as ive met men who returned to the city lifestyle,,often the dream of living on a boat for a long time is more fun than the reality,,i like the slogan there are no plumbers to call while at sea,,while there are also no mecanics when the fuel filter gets clogged and has to be changed in rough water so the motor will run again,,the city lifestyle can be stress free indeed and it really is unfair to rundown the women who prefer it..

That reminds me of a brass plaque that was installed on one of my previous boats: "Notice: marriages performed by the captain of this vessel are valid for the duration of the voyage."

I haven't seen any posts on here saying anything negative about women who prefer land. There were a couple of posts that said you shouldn't expose a good woman to the high life, but that was a different subject.

It's been more of a lamentation that there aren't more women suited to the cruising lifestyle and there's nothing at all really negative about that. Granted, it probably is the cushy city life that has gotten people so spoiled they can't enjoy a simpler life now. But if you look at the bigger picture, who wants to be around someone like that anyway?

Think about it. You are getting flack because of who is on this forum. Your generalization is not valid here.
