How do you do the Laundry?
We are wondering how those of you with children that are cruising full time manage laundry? We would rather not be stuck with going to a marina to do laundry. What is the best way to do it onboard?

5 gallon bucket....Toilet plunger for agitation....old school wringer to remove the water and then dry on the life lines.
We also would take bulks of laundry in from time to time just for a break.

A bucket of soapy water on the bow will self agitate as you sail along -just remember to keep a lid on it ;-).

This is where i use a little cheating.... In expensive countries theres coin operated laundries and in cheaper countries i have it done. Basic price is about $1 per pound/$2 per kilo.
But with kids, i dunno. Do you intend to clothe them? Dont they just get dirty and rip clothes anyway? What about old sail cloth shorts for the boys and grass skirts for the girls? 
When the Ex was in command of this vessel she used a bucket and drain plunger

Kenomac is not being facetious. If your boat is large enough, or you will be sitting still at anchor or a marina for a long time, and you have a lot of kids (or diapers), you can buy small $100 washing machine in most countries throughout the Caribbean, and I suspect elsewhere in the world. This are about 3-4' high and 2' in diameter. If you really will have a lot of laundry (or diapers), then they are very worthwhile.
On the other hand, if you are cruising in tropics, there will not be that much clothing to deal with. A few board shorts and a couple of T-shirts are what all well-dressed young boys and girls are wearing there. Often not even that.

I don't think we would have bought one and installed it on the boat ourselves...but it was already on our Hudson Froce 50 when we bought her and let me tell you...we LOVE it! It uses 13 gallons of frresh water per load but it makes living aboard so much easier.
We have seen many cruisers with units like these:

With a washing machine driven by the generator.
OK, you might think it is a smart-ass answer, but if you are considering full-time cruising, and especially if you have a generator, give this a lot of thought.

Definitely for full time cruising. Have seen a couple of cats with 750-1kw solar w/o genset able to run both watermaker and washing machine.

When i win the Big Lotto I will have room service pick it up and clean and return it. But till then it is the bucket and agitator and the life lines with lots of plastic clothes pins when breezy//
