Thanks to all of you that provided insight. As a lifelong diver, I have been able to interact with sharks myself, but have had no experience with a dog in the ocean. Looks like the rule of thumb is: Be aware and be smart about where we allow Tucker to dive in.

Too true!!,But I still wouldn't swim with Tucker.Mudnut.

If those little poodles weren't saying to the gators " hey you, yeah you with the ugly snout, I am over here can you hear me? Well can yuh?" instant silence, because the poodles didn't know just how quick those lowbelly creatures can be!!!!!

Sharks are wild animals, they do what they like...

As such they are unpredictable. They are eating machines, hungry enough, confused by surf, lack of water clarity etc they can do a lot of damage even if they spit your dog out regardless if "they are not on the shark diet list". Incidentally, Mules kill more people every year than sharks! Maybe some sharks are onry not hungry!
In anchorages, I would avoid later afternoons (maybe 3pm on?) as that is when I see most sharks foraging , including right under your boat in 13 ft of water!
