Re: dogs in the whitsunday islands

We love dogs and have owned dogs during periods of cruising the Qld coast but we made other arrangements for the dog until we returned to land.We also travel extensively into remote mainland National parks and the dog stayed elsewhere.
We actually waited for a couple of years until our last dog passed before we seriously cruised the QLD coast and islands.
Saw quite a few people last year totally ignore the ban let their dogs run amock and crap everywhere chase the wildlife and who then became became abusive if challenged.Same selfish people on the mainland.
Yep I am possibly one of the dobbers but very little happens less caught.
Please make other arrangements for your dog.

Presumably, then, the native wildlife does not defecate?.

That's because the people on cat's are out there cruising.

The mono's seem to spend all their time sailing in circles and triangles round bouys.

It is doggie doo able but you would have to plan your trip to "handle" all on board with out trips ashore in a large amount of where you want to go. Small dog - remote - no one in sight. Could be bundled into a shoulder bag at a pinch! Night time etc.

Cats make better crab bait baycruiser!!

Good luck

Many Queensland National Parks have boundaries down to the LOW water mark.

There seems to be a common misconception that dogs can be run on beaches of NPs below high tide. You know, where the migratory wading birds rest after a long flight south from Siberia.

I have noticed a small number of quite feral catamarans, but like dogs its mostly the fault of the feral owners.

I lived in Wyndham WA many years ago. A lot of crocs there The local indigenous people always took dogs with them whenever they went near the water. They said crocs always went after the dogs before humans.

Anyhow, one day a tourist thought it might be a good idea to go for an early morning walk along the waters edge. The hotel's dog went with him on the walk. The tourist got the shock of his life when a big croc leaped out of the water and took the dog from beside him.

Dogs - good croc bait alright.

Is not about being dog haters, its about keeping domestic animal disease and impact away from native species.

And, on Fraser Island the resorts are fenced to keep the dingoes out, away from people. No domestic dogs are allowed on Fraser, even on private properties, as they may cross breed with the only pure strain of dingo left in Australia.

thanks to everybody who replied. Looks like our dog will be enjoying a spell on dry land whilst we spend time sailing the Whitsundays.
