Re: Cruising Families Heading South - Fall 2011

Chris, sounds like you and Dave (Liberty) are neighbors now. I assume that you are both planning to cross the stream up there and hang a south. We are in Daytona and should be in Lauderdale this weekend. May have a window to the Bahamas middle of next week, but also planning to head further south as well. Also have 47' cat. What are your kids' ages? We have 13 y.o. girl aboard. Trying to meet another boat in F.L. to cross, but always looking for kid boats

Chris, I'm guessing your thornless pass is east then south? I probably should have considered that, but wanted to pass through the bahamas for a bit. What program are your kids doing for school? Our daughter is doing 7th grade Calvert. It would be nice to meet another same age girl. 47' cat? What brand? We have a Leopard, and I can only think of a couple other 47' models. Let us know what your plans are and maybe we'll see you along the way

Re: Cruising Families Heading South - Fall 2011

Chris, this is our second Leopard as well. We had hull #2 of the 46 in 2006/2007, but family issues caused us to cancel our plans and we sold the boat. I actually think the 47 is a much better boat than the 46, but that's for another forum. I assumed that based on your Christmas in BVI's plan that you were heading more direct, but I guess we are in the same general direction. I know my daughter would love to see that another 13 year old had their life ended by cruising!. She's actually been pretty good once we moved onboard, but it wasn't easy convincing her at first. Well, keep in touch; I think we're going to shoot for West End middle of next week if the weather stays as forecast, but we'll linger in the bahamas a bit and will try to run into you there.

Chris, we have considered the passage to the bvi's as well..when are you planning on leaving? We are considering the I 65 6-day path. What ages are you little ones?

Re: Cruising Families Heading South - Fall 2011

I assume everyone is out sailing, thus the lack of communication. We're currently in Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos. Met a few kids along the way, but it's still a little early here to have any crowds. Heading to Marsh Harbour later in the week and then off to the Exumas before the holidays. Anyone out there heading in the general direction?

Re: Cruising Families Heading South - Fall 2011

Hi all, Liberty is anchored at the Shackleford Banks (beaufort, NC) for the night, then moving to Spooner Creek to wait for a window to sail south. Right now it looks like departing Wednesday Nov 30 may be a good window. We will shoot for the Abacos, but if the weather is holding nicely we may press on to Royal Island/Spanish Wells. We have not yet cruised Eleuthera, and would like to do so on the way to George Town for Christmas. Then, Acklins/Samana Cay and Thorny Path south.

HawaiiSun2, glad to see you're in the islands. We can hardly wait. Morning Glory, another kid boat (Catana with 10 yr girl and 12 yr boy) is in Vero waiting for a window to West End. Looking forward to meeting all y'all.

We are in Little Grand Cay, and are going to be making our way through the Abacos, we are meeting family in Hopetown in 2 weeks and might stay there through the holidays. We plan on making our way down through to Georgetown, but are heading back to Fl in April to have baby #3 in May.
