Cruising East Coast with Daughter.

Ohana 2 heading up east coast from Annapolis, currently in Sandy Hook.

Years ago we spent 10 year gone aboard original Ohana ending up as many do in New Zealand.

Sold her down there and moved back to AK to tidy up the biz and get the girls a U.S. Education.

This summer decided to get them sailing again. Check out Madison's writing at:

captain-andthekid.blogspot.com

and keep an eye open for us around Block, Stonington, Newport, Mystic, etc!

Fair winds to all!

Re: Cruising East Coast with Daughter.

There are always plans :-) Youngest starting high school and plan to sail Ohana 2 for those years on the East Coast and Caribbean. Following that return to a large cat and get involved with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in the Pacific or similar.

Our experience has been 2-3 months cruising then 2-3 months in Alaska works. Keeps all fresh and an air of excitement. The other consideration is having meaningful goals to serve somehow while "out there".

Just sailing and exploring is great for awhile but after a bit of time something outside of boat life is in order.

Hope you enjoy her blog and let us know of your plans? We'll be out in Block Island all week.

Re: Cruising East Coast with Daughter.

Hi akprb,
We're planning on heading south this fall as well (NC to exumas as first stop - we'll see from there). Our kids are 13 (daughter) and 10 (son).

We would be very interested in what type of stuff you have found in cruising with a purpose. We are missionally minded and would love to get involved in helping as we go. We have reached out to a couple of organizations but still figuring out the options.

Regards,
Drew

Re: Cruising East Coast with Daughter.

That's a whole new thread we're going to start tomorrow.

What I can say at that age is focus on the kids and the marriage. The latter in particular.

There is so much to see and do. The exumas are the best but much in between worth the time. What kind of boat? Draft?

Churches all the Bahamas, just dive in :-)

Where are you now?
