Re: Cats (Felines)

My cat used paper litter - a newspaper on the bottom, a few scraps of paper crumpled up for "pushing around" - paper was always easy to find, he didn't care if it was a newspaper in English, Spanish, or Chinese, or even an old chart (no longer goat food, they have alternative uses), just didn't like that waxy British stuff, but who does?
Tray stayed on the shower floor, used litter went overboard. Unused newspapers stored by the side of the mast.
He was on board for ten years, now moved on to kitty heaven...

Re: Cats (Felines)

I keep mine in the forward cabin that we use for storage. I use Feline Pine litter. It's environmentally friendly and leaves the area "cat" odor free.

All the cats I ever had thought the water in the toilet was for play not bowel movements. I had to keep toilet lids closed.

Sarafina, your cat may be different but my sea cat refused to climb down into a box like that. I tried the lidded ones with doors as well and that wasn't much better.

A box under the companionway stairs was the answer for us and The World's Best Litter worked well. I bought some wheat stuff that someone recommended but when I opened the bag it was full of mouse turds which just seemed wrong so I returned it!

In the end Kitty the Pooh became a little discombobulated and it was anyone's guess where she'd crap. For some reason she always urinated in the box though. I miss her but it is easier without a cat on board and I don't miss finding a turd in my slipper or somewhere worse.

Miranda's box is located in the head to the side of the people potty. We are on a 26 foot boat so space is at a premium

Re: Cats (Felines)We are a no litterbox boat

sv Lady H, an Amel Super Maramu 2000 is currently in Roatan Honduras. We have a 9 mo old Maine Coon kitten (about 14-15 lbs) I was back in the states in March for surgery and picked her up....(she is my medical support animal....flys for free, must have letter from MD) have always been against dogs....see those people going in in the am with 30 knots blowing.....not for me....other boaters with cats....well you could always smell the litter box. We bought a thing called Litter-Kwitter, you teach them to use the head. Mizzen is on the green ring....doing just fine... She has been onboard since March. If you are on your way to Roatan we have 4 large boxes of litter for sale at a discount..........Capt Paul

Re: Cats (Felines)

Heard of a cat trained to use an Astro-turf-like doormat in the cockpit -- which had a grommet and a length of line... dunkable to clean.
