Cat chomping on fishing lines

This a question for those of you Who have cats aboard...

My cat likes to floss her teeth on our Fishing lines, which in turns out we lose a lot of lures and hooks etc.

My question is what can we do to deter her from doing this?

Any help would be appreciated as we can't keep replacing the fishing items lost

Thanks in advance

Wrap them in tin foil.

hang up, put away. leave them in rod holders. We have ceiling mounted rod holders in the cabin. Heavy rail mount rod holders on the aft pulpit.

Get a small pot of grass for the cat to chew on. That should stop the chewing of the line.

Keep them where the cat can't get to them.

Finally,

Learn to make your own lures from wine bladders and chips bags. You can make really snazzy "octopus" lures.

Lures are not hard to make. I caught a nice yellow tail off Baja with a lure I made with a hook I made from heavy copper wire and a bit of green nylon webbing and white yarn. The best part was that one of my crewmates had said, "It will totally blow my mind if you catch anything with that."

Perhaps you should look at what section this is in. "Families, kids and pets Afloat". Your post is not looking so funny in that context to me.

If that's supposed to be a joke, I suggest not giving up your day job.

If it's serious, then I would put you in the same class as Michael Vick.

There are many things that may work. You can try something like Tobasco (hot) sauce, products in the states like bitter apple and bitter yuck. The down side is none of these are waterproof but maybe an exposure or two would break the habit and not hurt the kitty. I have a stubborn kitty that nothing stops him but the others got the message quickly.

HTH,

Thank you for your reply...we certainly will give this a try...unfortunately our cat is stubborn too, but you'll never know.

Re: Cat chomping on fishing lines

I really can't understand why you are complaining. Obviously you are catching fish and your cat smells it on your lines and is simply trying to eat some of your catch.

My cat never chews on my fishing line. In fact, whenever I put out a line she usually goes below, curls up somewhere, and falls asleep.

Re: Cat chomping on fishing lines

We train cats not to wake us up too early in the morning this way: get one of those thin plastic water or beverage bottles, the kind that makes a crinkly sound when squeezed.
Make a tiny hole in the cap and fill the bottle nearly full of water. When you catch the cat in the act you want to extinguish, give it a bit of a spritz with the water. This is a tiny amount of water. Be sure to make the crinkly sound. We find that with just a few iterations, the cat will associate the sound with getting hit in the face with a few drops of water. Your goal is to train the cat to associate chewing fishing line with getting sprayed.
