Cat box system change not working

We are getting ready for boat life and read that the Breeze cat box was cleaner. I got it all set up and followed the suggestions for helping my cat transition to the new pellets vs. litter. She is using the new box for peeing, but will poop on the floor next to the box rather than in the box. Any suggestions? I have put some of her waste in the box and showed her, I am thinking she just doesn't like the pellets...

Re: Cat box system change not working

Cats like to dig a hole for their poop, which they can't do with that box. It may or may not get used to that. My neighbors have that setup and it is better for tracking, but it stinks and is inconvenient with the mats in my opinion. I bought a big plastic container with lid from home depot that I cut a hole in the top of the lid and glued carpet to that. I put a 40lb bag of Dr. Elsie litter in it (the blue bag) and that lasts 6 weeks for my one cat. Since the cat has to exit from the top onto carpet the tracking is manageable and more importantly to me, no odor. That would be my recommendation.

That looks kind of small. Have you watched your cat trying to use this box. This reminds me of a large cat we had and a litter box that was too small. The cat used the box consistently. The only problem was, only the front half of the cat was in the box. She THOUGHT she was using the box, from her perspective. It looked like she was in the box...... from her perspective (front legs IN, looking around appeared to be IN). Unfortunately, the 'business end' was not in the box EVERY TIME. Got a bigger box and it solved the problem.

Depending where you are planning to go, you may not be able to always get the litter that you want. Our cats have a standard lidded litter box with whatever litter we are able to find. During the day it lives on deck so tracking is a minimal issue. We scoop it out twice a day so no lingering odours.
