Do dogs get sea sick? I know some get car sick.

When we lived in SoCal we used to take our female Springer Spanial to Catalina with us--until we got caught is a Santa Ana and had to blow around to the west side of the island to find shelter in Cat Harbor. The seas where huge and the poor animal was so sick she could do little more than lay on the floor of the cockpit, whimper and vomit. From then on, we could not get that dog aboard the boat for love nor money. Carry her aboard and she'd leap off and head for shore, or dangle over the side on her tether, the minute you let your guard down. They do suffer just like humans if not worse.

Yes. On passages, we give our 60 lb dog 3 Tums. Really seems to help. Give them BEFORE they become sea sick.

The citing is from an article by Noel Dilly. Anyone with a normal ear. The short - a deaf/Mute institute took 70 inmates on a cruise and despite a storm none got seasick. Children less than 2 are immune, but more susceptible between 2 and 12. Interesting, excessively fit exercise freaks are susceptible to seasickness, but not space sickness. Mentions sex and race differences - woman 70% being more susceptible during pregnancy and menstruation. Asian races, chinese especially more susceptible, You also don't need to be awake to get seasick. May relate to evolutionary need for a neurotoxin release.

Our Maltese, a true "salty Dog" has made 12 trips from the Chesapeake to the Caribbean and back. She does tend to salivate excessively for a coulple of days but never vomits; neither does my wife. (She doesn't salivate either.)

More or less on topic, yes dogs can get sea sickness/motion sickness. One or two ginger snap cookies will usually get them through it without further suffering.
