Bringing Cats or Dogs Back to UK

Hi there,
We are planning our first long-ish sail-away trip (2-month long), and are planning to take our 2 cats with us (we've been taking them on weekend trips for a year now, and they adapted to sailing quite well).

We got their passports, we studied the PETS scheme and Defra regulations.

Has anyone been through the process of bringing pets back to the UK, via DEFRA 'approved' routes? Interested in practicalities, issues you faced with, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

very easy if you take a ferry or the channel tunnel, just check in at pet station 1hour before departure.

Thank you Atoll. This pet station - is it a designated one or just any vet?

it is sign posted PETS,and is run by Brittany ferries,or euro tunnel in Calais depending on the location, all info is available online when booking your ticket regarding the location from the ferry companies, office is near to main departure terminal.

they scan the animal for its chip, and check the passport that the rabies vaccine is current, takes about 15 minutes depending on how many people are waiting to check in their pets.

only gone via Calais,so can't comment on other designated routes, but guess it is pretty much the same.

a bit more info here
