Yep, I should have said both PFD with handles and a lifting harness. We rarely needed to actually insert dog A in PFD B, but they always had a harness on. Re-learned that one night when one of the Goldens mis-understood how wide finger piers are (NOT) in the dark. Took a major effort to scoop him up onto our swim platform, about wore us both out.

The blog: Taking Paws, has 2 golden retrievers onboard, and they had one jump overboard. They did some research into what harnesses would work best, and some information on their website may be of some use to you.
