Admiral?

In my experience its a US thing... they Love a Title... and a Rank...
That's why everyone's a Captain... and why they gotta call the Missus the Admiral...
Real Admirals don't usually go to sea... and on the rare occasions they do... they do little or nothing... for them its a cruise
Over this side were mainly just sailors or seaman... unless they're a 'Boathook up de Butt' RYC member...
Believe its something to do with being 'Institutionalised'....

Well, using our system, it is obviously safer having an unslippery unvarnished table, so that decision would stand .

If you find it offensive to hear someone address their own partner as Admiral, that is your problem not theirs.

My MBA wife of 36 years bought and has a T-shirt that says, "My husband may be the Captain, but I am the Admiral". I guess I should stop introducing her as my "first wife", too. She thinks the Admiral thing is hilarious and has often been asked by women around the marina and the BVI's where she got that T-shirt. We're too busy having fun together to worry about being politically correct around the docks.

1st encountered it on CF a few years back before it became quite the international Forum it is today..

it is a fact in a court of law.. and not really subject to dispute so no matter how you individually operate your vessel, there is a Captain.

Note, i am not discussing the mechanics of how a couple operate here, merely simply stating a fact. When i did have a sailing partner we were in fact true partners and i never referred to her either as Admiral or First Mate. She would not have cared either way but I was however, the Captain of record.

My partner is neither above or below me, at least in terms of rank. Rather, my partner is a partner. The boat is owned in partnership, and decisions are based upon a consensus of both partners.

If you envision one partner as outranking the other, you may need to rethink the concept of partner.

In our relationship, I'm in charge of important things , like our household policy on relations with China, and so forth, my wife looks after and is in charge of the more mundane things , like finance , lending ( to me) , budgets , energy , travel , domestic comforts , etc etc.

Outside of that important role that I do , I seem, to moonlight as a draft horse as I'm always , taking that over there or get that from over here !!
