Re: A Woman's Needs

Know when to shut up and don't yell at her when docking or anchoring.

Good one Anjou! On that same note

I need a new mainsheet
I want a dodger
I need a new anchor rode
I want new dorades

Usually what this woman "needs" is what the boat can't live without. My "wants" is what I can't live without.

Sorry if this has been said before,
Erika

Re: A Woman's Needs

I think (in general) a “woman’s Needs” very much depends on whether there are any children in the equation or planned for the future.

If so, a great number of “Needs” based on providing a comfortable and secure nest becomes their priority.

Then the male must adjust to those Needs….learn to Knead the situation and of course develop tolerances from occasionally being Kneed when his own needs interfere!.....

Leaving aside that the head and compartment gets cleaned regularly whether it needs it or not, I find that folks in these parts have managed to work out how not to piss on there own feet. As always, YMMV

Possibly an equipment shortage issue?

Re: A Woman's Needs

Ms.Lau and Erinsavov, and all those who applaud them.

You females have got a lot to learn about being 'women'!

Like most men, I'm totally capable of being a disgusting lazy low life slob on my own. I don't need any help at all. And I don't need a partner who can also just muck along at that level.

I want a woman on my boat to give me a reason to rise above all that. It's why Eve was tossed into the Garden in the first place... it gave Adam a reason to make the Garden nice. The result? Adam liked the Garden a whole lot better too.
No woman will ever crap in a bucket on my boat. It's digusting and unnecessary, because I refuse to lower my own standards to that level. If you haven't found a man who'll 'man up', go waitress for a week and buy a goddam porta potty at least.

Here's the deal, and it's pretty simple.
I'll provide a good 'home' that's safe and has at the very least the basics, like a real head, and water and cooking facilities. It's no big deal. I'm a guy, it's what we do.

In return, all I need (and have) is a companion who appreciates it, AND has maintained a little of her female mystique, femininity and dignity.
I don't want to see tampons, know that periods are heavy this month... in fact I don't even need to know its happening, other than a comment like 'lousy timing' if the mood was heading that way... I don't even want to hear farts, and I treat her with the same courtesy.

That doesn't mean being too precious to be practical either. She rolls up her sleeves and varnishes and antifouls, and cooks and cleans.

You know what? I'm happy to go the extra mile to treat her like a princess, because the flip side is that I get treated like a king. Somehow we both think we're getting the better end of the deal.... but I know I really am...

P.S. I do raise my hat to all women who are out there living the life on their own steam

I am not sure that being insulting to women whom you have never met, and know nothing about, really syncs with the whole "chivalry" thing you imagine you have going.

It's so sad that so many "Women at Sea" subforums end up with men telling women how they should behave, what it means to "be a woman", how much they should weigh, etc. I hope one day we move beyond this level of dialogue.

Re: A Woman's Needs

RESPECT!!!!!

women are not always civilized-- one who tried to pass herself off a a crew for my boat --with her hubby-- used 50 gallons of water in one sitting and introduced a flubug from hell into my life and boat-- made bubba most upset, as i havent been able to move or eat for 3 days now, equilibrium is off, and lungs arent comfy in breathing----these folks stayed a whole 3 days--until i sed we be sailing, hand steering, 100 miles out--LOL-- they ran like scalded dogs and i could hear the clucking for miles. is allll good-- now i have GOOD crew-not just from study books and classes having nothing to do with cruising....LOL i s a large qap between classes and practice. being a crew is being part of a team. work together is good--- not --is lousy
lack of consideration is a large problem in sailing when it comes to some folks-- they cannot understand they must respect boat and skipper, whether is a she or a he.

Fair comment, but it's going to happen as long as people set themselves up for it.
You see, I actually find it insulting that some women believe men are so primitive that they'd see their own lack of living standards as a positive. As something men would applaud!
Big mistake.
If I'd gone onto a woman's boat and found that the head was a bucket tipped over the side, she'd better have one hell of a personality and a lot else going for her if I was going to be interested in taking the relationship any further.

The original poster was asking what women need on a boat. He already has the head installed .
In my experience, and that is all I can go by, he'll do just fine if he provides the basic living standards most people would need on land, and to treat her as someone a bit special.

It works for us, and many others.
Sorry you find it offensive.

Well D, I expect that you, as an stellar example of the male of the species, and the goat, having 4 feet and this being very stable, have both got exemplary head habits, but sadly you would be in the statistical minority...

really.

I mean REALLY...
