A Florida Anchorage with 2 boys (8 & 11 yo)?

Hello

We are looking for 1 anchorage in Florida - on the East Coast preferably - to stay put for 2 weeks (early part of December) with our 2 boys. The perfect anchorage would be as follows:

- good holding
- close to shops/amenities where we can walk once we dinghy over.
- with a marina not too far to pump out
- close to fun things for the boys to do after boat school work....
- beautiful

Does such a place exist?

Thanks in advance.

How far south do you want to go? You have to get as far south as the northern Keys to get nice swimming and snorkeling.

As a Floridian, I'm sure you'll get lot's of suggestions. Go to the web and take a look at "Active Captain". It is a great site for cruisers and sailors. Your two boys will enjoy their site too...It's kid friendly.....Their App is free also.

....if you like humidity and a daily afternoon thunder shower you'll enjoy your stay here in Florida. It's not as bad as some may say...

Titusville or Melbourne, not the most happening towns on the planet but an easy commute to Disney, Orlando Airport, Space Center, Beaches.

The area around Cape Florida has those things ( maybe not remote beauty but nice). No Name Harbour is protected with easy access and very popular. A grocery store is within walking distance and there are shallows where lots of people go to play. Snorkling and diving can be found off Miami just outside. Then just inside going north there is Crandon marina. On calm days it is nice to go south and find anchorages out in the bay and around the upper keys.

Find a location not far from Disney World - Orlando; a couple of hours drive to/from your boat. (A nearby Enterprise Rent a Car will pick you up from your dock, at no extra charge.) Anchor between Daytona Beach and Merritt Island on the Atlantic side. Plenty of water sports at Disney's. Enjoy!

Hi. I don't mind going quite south, if that is what it takes to have my first 4 criteria met.

Fair winds,

Not many great beaches are in the Florida keys. The two beaches that I recommend are: 1) Sombrero Beach - Marathon Key, and 2) Bahia Honda State Park, at the end of the 7 mile bridge. The water visibility is not the greatest in either beach. Pennekamp's underwater park in Key Largo is a "fair" place to snorkel in, so is Looe Key (weather permitting). Unless he has a keel that is 5 ft or less, he shouldn't be trying the Keys. Good luck!

Try Cocoa, Fl, south side of hiway 520 on west side. Close to Cocoa Village, public dinghy dock, short walk in park. Free moorage at this time. The bridge will help protect from the occasional northerly winds. Seems popular during the winter migration of the people of the north hinter lands....

How are you getting there? If you're traveling down by boat from Maryland, then you might simply want to keep going until you find something you like.

St Augustine. Great beaches and lots of history. Used to live there before we brought our Bayfield 32 to Fort Myers for wife's new job, so if you decide on St A PM us and we'll shower you with advice.
