Tell your wife to contact me if she is serious. Chicken poop is bad. Really bad. Really, really bad. The eggs were tasty but my yard smelled like an open sewer. Now the hubby has pheasants. They don't smell that bad.

Heck I LOVE Eggs!! But no way would I have chickens aboard to get them !! And as it's already been said, hate to think what papers ya would need to have to be able to ck into any other country!! And as many problems you can have just ckin in with old pics on your passport, it would be fun trying to ck into Jamaica, with a flock !! LOL And so far Ive found eggs all through the Caribbe!

Domestic turkeys are about the dumbest creatures I can think of. Their wild cousins must be a lot smarter because if they weren't they'd be extinct by now.

If you are still contemplating poultry, geese can make very nice pets--very affectionate, and excellent guard 'dogs'. Of course, they could make the decks pretty slick ....

I don't think she was serious, we have chickens here on our place and she finds them pretty foul. Maybe, since I sail alone, she wants to the girls to go?
We have a local live aboard that has Chinchilla's, maybe 6? The little buggers are nocturnal and you can hear them at night when you walk by his boat. I don't think he eats them. I did imagine up a small coop for four hens, wouldn't be hard if they didn't mind the laying boxes lashed to the kranse iron.

All you have to do is learn the simple process of egg preservation. We store farm fresh only eggs on board for over 7 months without a refrigerator. Just buy about 12 dozen and use sodium silicate

I wrote something here last year when we tested it out and we still enjoy it.

This is an old thread that keeps hanging on, kinda like chicken poop. I would never have animals in a small place, but a good small watchdog would come first. I have had chickens- great for a garden but bad for boats.

Sadly the boat was wrecked in the Azores alongside a harbour wall.
The duck went missing but turned up a few days later.

I thought chickens on a boat were supposed to be good luck?

In the old days, something about the crates they were kept in floating when the boat went down. Sailors could cling to them and possibly live a little longer, not much longer, but a little.
