Wiltshire Staysharp knives.....

The kind that re-sharpen themselves every time you store tham back in their supplied 'scabbard'.

Equially it is well known in Australia that copious internal libations of Bundaberg Rum are the perfect antidote for the bite of the Red-Back Spider.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.....

Right on! I have two of these knives, one large and one small and thought I was the only one on the planet who had discovered them. One of their best features for boating is that you can throw the whole thing in a drawer and know that the blade won't be damaged when the boat thrashes about.

Janet-
In the quest to prevent dull blades, I found out that you can actually buy simple plastic blade guards for all sorts of knives. Knife just tucks in the middle, and the plastic is durable. About $8 each in the kitchen stores, often $3 online.

No more cardboard and tape scabbards for me!

Do filleting knives work well for this or are the blades too thin?

Re: What is your best provisioning tip?

Sew up several palm size canvas bags (4"x4"). Fill them with rock salt. Put a canvas salt bag in your dried food container. Keeps rice, pasta, beans, etc. dry and fresh.

No such thing as "too thin" if you buy the right size to fit it. If you stick a 1/2" tall filter blade in a 2" tall sheath...probably not.

Re: What is your best provisioning tip?

Hot chocolate..?? Lindt Dark Chocolate. 5 tsps per cup. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Dissolve the choc flakes with a dash of boiling water, add hot milk. Stir briskly and drink slowly....
