Fresh milk almost anywhere in the Caribbean. Big, beautiful, thick fresh (not frozen) steaks for cooking on the grill are hard to find down there too.

health wise--there is NO allergy medication in mexico with sudafed in it---is prohibited--so if you need this, send home for it..it will arrive in a month.plan ahead. is especially important if you are sensitive to phenylephrine, which is contained in the allergy meds her ein mexico..

fancy feast green cans--none in mexico--train your gato to eat crap foods as that is all there is fro cats here in mexico. pooooor bubba has to eat whiskas instead.....

Just checked my Cosco wish list for when the boat is done with rehab in 6 weeks:

6lbs whole coffee beans
300 packs of Crystal lite lemonade (for our Cocokai concoction )
Box of sweet & salty peanut bars
Mega boxes of Qt & Gal Ziplocs ( for butchery meat and fresh fish)
box of favorite gum
40 ranch dressing mixes
10lbs Krustz pancake mix
2-qts peanut butter ( for the Krustz PB and banana pancakes)

Also if you like cheese its hard to find or expensive in French Polynesia and SE Asia. Will be stopping in Langkawi for several kilos on our way to S. Africa

Fresh fruit and vegies are usually available thru trade.

Sodastream has the best rootbeer I can recall ever tasting. The unopened syrup bottles don't require refrigeration. The CO2 cylinders can be bootleg filled from conventional bar cylinders. Leaving only the watermaker to fill out that fantasy food.

Also, for Rebel Heart, during the winter holidays you can enjoy Noche Buena, a seasonal dark Mexican beer, especially good when mixed in a lime juice and spices blend called a Michelada. Ummmm good!

There are not too many countries where you can buy bullets or vegemite.

But does that matter?

If you really want the former, go to almost any busted-arse 3rd world country or the USA. If you want the latter, go to NZ, OZ, Fiji or some specialty shops in the UK.

Have to agree with you on the soda stream root beer, good stuff. having four daughters that love a root beer float for a treat it is a must have for trips.

Oh man then you have not tried a good Stout brewed w a bit of raw cocoa powder...delicious...I brewed one a few years ago...yumm!

Craft brewing is just in its early stages here in Central American. A few good locally produced craft brews now available in most CA countries.

Re what you cannot get. We prefer to buy local and fresh rather than searching out big brand name stuff. To me thats part of the experience of living/cruising somewhere. And this also means we are eating real food...something it sounds like is almost no longer available back in the USA.

Any Kiwi or Canuck here could correct me if I am wrong, but I was told 30 years ago by a Kiwi that they eat Vegemite as a natural insect repellent because of the B-complex and yeast properties. I presume the same is said for Marmite. Not sure if it is true or not, but when among family that does not eat the stuff, they are they ones being bitten. Heck, I'm not fond of the stuff, so I am not surprised the bugs are not either.

And as for the name it is Crimea, an apparently unknown autonomous peninsula in the Black Sea and part of Ukraine at present.

Nothing solid to back up the theory that vitamin B repels mossies.

I can't answer for the New Zealanders, but Aussies just eat vegemite because being born and raised on it we are seriously addicted to the stuff .
