Weber Q1200 Grill on a boat

It seems as though Magma Grills is getting a bit of competition from Weber Grills.

We have been seeing these Weber Q1200 grills on a lot of boats for a few years now.

We have used one of these at home for many years ourselves and really love it.

Lots of ways to mount them on a boat

Mounted the Weber Q1200 to our 1” stern rail.
Used the Magma Dual Extended Horizontal Round Rail Mounts. This mounting makes it rock solid.

The Weber Q1200 was $140
The Magma rail mount was $90

We will add a cutting and serving table on the side made from starboard.

I have been looking at doing this too, but didn't know how to rail mount one.
Now I do, I believe I can use my rail mounts I have on my Magma with a couple pieces of angle or so it looks from your picture.
The $10,000 question though is, will it stay lit? My Magma won't and it drives me nuts.
I want a good grill that I can rail mount and then mount a 10 lb Propane tank underneath it and get away from those little rusting, leaking 1 lb bottles.

I have been considering this one, but don't know anything about it

Isn't rust and corrosion a problem?

a64pilot,

If your Magma round grill keeps blowing out you can make a Wind Disk. Once installed in the round lid you turn it to make the holes very small and that will stop it from blowing out. Did that on our Magma round grill with the monohull and it worked perfect. Never blows out after the upgrade.

We have a catamaran, so the cockpit is well blocked from prevailing wind.

Not much on these Weber Q1200's that can rust as they are all aluminum and plastic.

My Magma marine grill needed the disk over the burner replaced every 2 years from decay. The Magma is also a Beeeeitch to clean.

The Weber cleans up easily as it has a hole out the bottom.

I have the little round one too, I used it on our last boat, but I have had for the last couple of years the IR Rectangular one, I thought it would be better than the round one, but if it is, it's just barely

Staying lit in the wind is I believe THE issue for a boat grill

That looks interesting. We have the 9 x 18 (?) Magma grill. I stick the ends of a rolled up paper towel into the windward vents to keep it from blowing out.

When I cook a steak or other greasy food, I get a slick off the back and stains on the cockpit fibreglass. I imagine the Weber would be worse if it has a hole in the bottom.

How do you handle the drippings?

In the picture it looks to have an aluminum pan to catch the drippings.
My Magma does, doesn't yours?

Our Weber Q1200 is mounted so it hangs over he water.
All the drippings can go right out the bottom if we want.

It comes with drip tray to use if you mount the grill over the cockpit area.

We have lived aboard 12+ years and had many marine grills. The Weber Q1200 is by far the best functioning grill we have had. Our grills get a lot of use and you can tell there is a lot of experience behind the design.

It does have a pan under it. We have one of those Grill Mats on it so we can grill veggies, but it is fully enclosed by the grill so I don't see how it would make the drips miss the pan...
