Sorry, Wotname. I got confused and thought I was posting in the Vegetarian thread, where there's been a battle royal going on between the meat eaters and the non-meat eaters. My bad!

Well that is good news, at least it wasn't me who was confused this time - thanks for the heads up

Here in the American south it's like bacon, but may be salted and not cured or smoked. Very fat, nice for seasoning. In New England it's salt pork, cut in cubes and "tried out" to make little crisp things to put in chowder.

Different strokes for different folks. Different boats; different situations. I positively cannot imagine provisioning for an ocean crossing without a freezer. Lots of our friends manage to do this. They end up eating some strange food combinations. Not for us.

Kind of limits one to only having boullion. I find that so sad.

Re: Storm Foods ?

A brick of cheese and a loaf of bread. Bite off chunks when convenient. If the storm is really bad I might resort to raw carrots and whatever raw veggies are around. Water in a bottle. Apples. Ginger candies.

Re: Storm Foods ?

Some good ideas here! When coastal cruising, I usually keep apples, bananas, fiber one bars and other granola bars handy. Also some cooked chicken that you can eat fast. I sail in the Gulf, so usually it is warm, but in winter, I like to have hot drinks and soups available. A friend brought a trail mix that was awesome one time!
