Re: Solar oven?

Unless you are north of the border. Then I'll say that even on a day where it's 4 or 5 out......

Re: Solar oven?

This is a high-quality oven. Now it has huge reflectors and as I found out to get the higher temperatures you really need them. So this will only be used when it's not windy or if you can put it in a sheltered from the wind not Sun area on your boat. Click image for larger version

Re: Solar oven?

5" Vacuum tubes are currently on sale by this company for $55 plus $15 shipping. This prefab reflector looks interesting. Click image for larger version

And the price of these vacuum tubes has gone up so $70 is not bad. And the reflector looks easy enough to copy.

Re: Solar oven?

I definitely think the five inch vacuum tubes are better. But this is a good price for those of you interested in the smaller diameter vacuum tube solar ovens.Click image for larger version

Re: Solar oven?

Sorry for not being able to post a link. Here's a video of the bigger gosun in action. Pretty slick design. But damn they're expensive. Lots of good advice on how temperature shock can shatter them. Click image for larger version

Re: Solar oven?

And here's one that looks like the smaller go Sun but the "ratings" say the aluminum reflector is very flimsy possibly not the right curvature and the photos show a surface that does not look very reflective. But with a little modification this is a deal for those that want something that takes up little room. Click image for larger version

Re: Solar oven?

I have found a jar with in a "jar" is much more effective for heating water for solar tea, especially on Windy days. Also please note when using glass jars when the sun is low itClick image for larger version

ID:	172093 will form a magnifying glass with a concentration right at the base of the jar. I have a small mirror I put under the jar I don't know if it reflects the heat back into the tea but it keeps it from burning my deck. Photo taken near Sunset so magnifying effect can be seen far behind the jar and weak

Re: Solar oven?

here's another good buy. In the future I plan on having a jar of whole grain batter in my refrigerator at all times. In the morning I would make a loaf like French bread or mini loafs to fit those containers, put it in the tray let it partially rise Click image for larger version

Re: Solar oven?

Worken it yesterday. From lower left clockwise. Sterilizing eggshells for my garden, sliced sweet potatoes and onions, sterilizing soil, barley. Temperature 250 degrees all afternoon. Not in picture steak on top of rice that I had for lunch. Oops it is in photo it's on top of the barley container with green onions on top. Aluminum mirrors have corroded normally I would get temperature of 300.

Re: Solar oven?

We also have the gosun solar unit. The mid size. Works great just donít start dinner 30 min before sunset. No really we bought it for a backup for our Carribean trip and used it a fair amount. Check it out. It works

Re: Solar oven?

Yesterday it was too windy to use my reflectors and hazy so temps we're around 200 degrees. But it's still hot enough to Brown steak and oh so tender. And there was very little water in the barley and cooked sweet potatoes that's under the steak that's all juice from the steak. And that photo's from when I first took off the lid I put some soy sauce on it let it cook for about 15 more minutes and it got much darker

Unfortunately in the video how to make it she just discusses the glass container and the stoneware container but doesn't show how to make the funnel.

Hmm, looks pretty obvious from your link: she just stuck the windshield reflector in a bucket to give it its shape, nothing scientific about it. It's held down by the rack.

I somehow doubt she could tell you the angles and such. If you really need more info, maybe just leave her a message on YT.
