No seriously, what is your favorite RUM drink concoction?

Should you ever drink Sundowners in the middle of the day well before the sun goes down?

Royal Swan rum & dry ginger ale works well enough for me. I tend to run a dry ship off-shore; it just seems sensible to me, but that isn't to suggest anyone else should abide by my rules. On anchor, in a sheltered bay, now that is a different story.

Rum, a favourite topic.

Drink bugger all on delivery/passage, 1 or 2 as the sun goes down, if a calm evening.

But, anchored up, in a secure anchorage and I mean secure,totally different.

Current fav's are all pot destilled, anything else is petrol

Can't drink Bundaberg at all, worst rum ever ( well maybe some cats piss from New Caledonia)

Done a few of trip's recently so managed to get and sample,

Four Bell's dark navy ( got a case, sensational)

Inner Circle green and red dot ( definetly my favourite, and I know of a supply of green dot on a Vanuatu Island where they have a few cases put aside for $8 a bottle. Old stock they reckon, so cheap )

Myers original Dark Jamaica 2 bottles

El Dorado dark from Guyana 1 bottle

Captain Morgan Spiced Gold (makes a Bloody lethal milkshake, and great on icecream) 4 bottles

Bounty Rum ( a gold medal winner from Fiji, yummy) 6 bottles

Sailor Jerry Spiced BVI 1 bottle

We have been distilling our own for a while now using the above to perfect our flavour, and now use a Dark/Jamaican /Navy blend in various quantities to get the magic blend.

We can do this while on board the new boat.

We will usually have at least 25 litres at any one time, we did have 50 litres of rum once.

We also do Gin and Scotch.

The best bit is no hangover, and $5 per litre cost to make.

Coconut rum and grapefruit juice is an excellent way of keeping up one's Vitamin C!

Best rum I ever tasted is Matuzelum. Cuban tradition rum, now made in Dominican Republic (same family, they fled Cuba when Castro came to power). The 15 year Gran Reserve is excellent. If you look a little and ask for it, it's available in the states. Wouldn't dare mix with Coke or Pepsi! I hesitate to put an ice cube in it. Outstanding!

I would carry onboard about that much or more. I plan to carry that much, or more onboard my future boat.

pusser's the single malt of rum. this one has a lot of body when the weather is too hot for scotch

I found that if I drank in the evening my mental processes were noticably impaired the next day, so after discusion with my doctor I decided not to drink alcohol.

I find that I am noticably sharper and more rational.

I would suggest that drinking while at sea in particular, and on a boat in general increases the risk of a problem occurring.

It may be best if alcohol can be avoided.

However, on a boat or a sea would not be the best place to give up drinking.

Used to be the same,

Doing home distilled spirit's you can actualy discard the fusile oil's, which is the bit that makes you sick and made the "Moonshiners" go blind and lose limb's.

Most commercial spirit's leave this stuff in.

No hangovers, no fuzzines any more.

I make my own wine and have found the "no hangover" to be due to my very limited use of sodium metabisulfite preservative of which, there is a lot in commercial wines.

Yes!! I would like to know as well!

BTW I believe the English Navy use to issue out a pint of rum per day.
