Re: Rum

Surprised that Boatman61 was the only one who brought up Bunderburg (bundy for short) from 'down under'... they make a passable cane rum and their overproof is wild stuff, man! My partner's family sends us a couple of bottles of OP every Christmas and it is very welcome in our house! Those not used to it, don't drive home! Goes great sippin' or with a lttle lime and soda... Phil

Re: Rum

No, No! Only Queenslanders drink bundy, but they also drink XXXX beer, so their taste is totally off the scale. Most serious rum drinkers here do not touch the stuff, me included, it is a poor substitute for real rum. I am talking the plain version here, not the up market ones.

Coops.

Yes! They also have Brugal Extra Viejo. Best ever.

Diplomatico from Venezuela is also good, as are most others from the Caribbean mentioned in this thread.

Thanks for that, Coops... This confirms that my partner's family has been trying to poison me for years (although I can think of worse ways to go!) Cheers, Phil

Yep, Mt Gay has the same effect on me... great BBQ starter though!

Re: Rum

Recently tried Goslings Family Reserve and Zacapa Solera 23 year in a rum tasting and enjoyed each one.

Re: Rum

I imagine you all have had the "Minister of Rum" come aboard in Dominica?

Re: Rum

Not that long ago we picked up a small (3 liter) oak barrel to re-age (make palatable) some cheap rum in, and are really happy with the results we have gotten so far. It has mellowed it out quite a bit and imparted slight butter, Oak, and vanilla flavors. Its turned out quite good actually. We plan on simply adding more rum to it as we use whats already in there. The longer it stays in, the better it gets! It also looks nice as a rum storage.

now that's something i would find room for in my boat! i like the tap on the side and the cork on top making filling and draining easy.

but i don't think it would do much for ABC rum sold here in florida in the ABC liquor store chain. that stuff is pure rotgut....

Jedi, Is it HanSolo's rum barrel, or his name that you like?
