Re: Rechargeable coffee grinder

I'm with newhaul on this one. We've been using a Krups coffee grinder since about 1990, still here on the boat. Still works great. What's to not like? It runs off our antique inverter. Have used it to grind spices. Clean before and afterwards by running white rice through it.

Re: Rechargeable coffee grinder

Just took a gander and you can get an electric grinder for under $20 USD and a small inverter to run it for about $10 USD on eBay so lots cheaper than any battery unit.

Re: Rechargeable coffee grinder

How lazy do you have to be to need an electric salt/pepper grinder?

...or what quantity of salt/pepper does one have to use that would make muscle fatigue a factor?

grind pepper 10 seconds a day for what you use.
Coffee 3 to 5 min by hand per pot and 2 or more pots a day.
Every minute saved grinding means that much closer to the nectar of the gods or life's blood (depending on when you are making it.)

I get it for coffee, but not salt/pepper which is what I questioned.

I have a hand cranked burr coffee grinder in the back of a drawer on my boat. I cut off the crank and modified it so it can be turned with my electric drill. (Now that I think about it, it’s one of those “spares” that makes clutter and needs to be tossed).

Long ago I replaced it with a proper burr grinder that runs on AC. It only draws a few watts. The only other AC powered thing we use in the galley is a stick blender. (My inverter is only 300w “pure sine”, but is sufficient for my needs because I only use it for recharging battery operated devices, and these low draw kitchen appliances.). As others have written, the OP is probably better off using an AC-power grinder and buying a low power inverter (probably 100w is sufficient for a grinder) and the “modified sine”ones are inexpensive. (“pure sine” is better for sensitive electronics and chargers.)
