My parents got one of these packs from Cosco. I have a few things out of it, like some TVP (flavored), and a few cans of dried meals...

It's similar to camping style dried meals in a bag. The photo with cheese on the nice looking chili, plates full of meat, stacks of pancakes with butter... yeah, that's all lies.

Personally, I'd prefer a few cases of MRE's. At least MRE's have real meat and some decent stuff packaged in single servings (very handy)

No doubt this would be good stuff to store for an emergency. Although I think buying dried beans and rice and other basic non-refrigerated foods would go a lot further on a lot less money... I guess it's good if you really want to remove the thought process of provisioning, and you're not too keen on eating healthy or enjoying your meals.

200$ a month for food per person is kind of high, but on the right hand side of the page, you can get an entire years worth of food for two people for 1,899$. That's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Besides, it's not like you have to eat it all at once, or all at the same time.

As for it being dog food, well... I spend maybe 5 minutes eating a day. That's military training for you. I'm still waiting for the 1 a day pill that supplies all the vitamins and nutrients you need, never hungry. Easier to store.

Of course, there were some problematic side effects...

So it doubles as an extra PFD. Really, I don't see what the big deal is.

It tasted ok so it would be good if you are in a bind but I wouldn't want to try and survive on it for any length of time. I would recommend it only for a last resort back up.
