Provisioning in Canada

I am getting ready to head North again, wondering if St Johns Newfoundland is as good place to restock the galley and get any parts needed for repairs as Halifax. I have been to Halifax on a previous voyage and know what is available there. Weather permitting, going directly to St John's would save a bit of sailing, and after a month at sea and heading to points north I will need a serious amount of provisioning to last the summer.

St. John's is a good sized city with plenty of supermarkets for replenishing. No worries there.

That's good to know. I am familiar with the south shore of Newfoundland, and was hoping that St John's was bigger than the other towns in the area. Been checking it out on the internet, looks like a good place for marine supplies as well.

If you were leaving from the left coast, I would suggest the Ferry Meat Market if they are still in business or, of course, Granville Island for fresh veggies and bake goods. Cheers, Phil

I will be sailing north from Suriname in June, so fresh veggies will be long gone by the time I arrive. Looking at any Port of Entry in the area, would even consider stopping St Pierre again to stock up on wine Where I make landfall will be subject to the weather, but St John's is my first choice as I am planning on heading North from there and dont want to linger there too long due to the short sailing season.

For boat supplies, Mercers Marine is one of the best Chandlery's in Canada. For simple groceries, St John's is a provincial capital and has everything you will need. Further North you can top up in St. Anthony. But that would be the last major town. If your going down the Labrador Nain is the last place to get anything and i would count on getting even that! Have a good trip and watch out for the Bears, White and Black.

Thanks everyone, St John's looks like the place to go. And a good marine supplies store is even better, I haven't had access to one in quite awhile.
