Re: Poll: Favorite Bars and Pubs

As a special amenity for cruiser's nothing was better than Casey's Bar & Laundromat at the dinghy landing behind Topp's Grocery at Fort Myers Beach, Florida. As cruiser's without devoting space and water to washing cloths aboard, we found the bar & laundry combination genius!

Sadly, I hear that the place has closed!

Re: Poll: Favorite Bars and Pubs

I'm confused, are there bad bars

I don't care too much for fancy bars just because the drinks cost more, but I still wouldn't call them bad. All bars are good!

Peter's Bar in Horta, Azores... it seems to be slipping on the staff quality/cleanliness side since the old man died.. but still a hard drinking fun place with live music and a mix of locals and folk doing 'The Crossing'.. Tall Tales and swinging lanterns..
The Shack (don't know the name) on the quay at Nuku Hiva.. the owners a lovely guy.. the foods basic but great after 36days at sea and most days a few of the locals get together for a jam session of Island music and singing.. if I'd been on my own boat I may never have left..

Re: Poll: Favorite Bars and Pubs

For me, a good bar is about the people inside and the fun that everybody is having. I've pretty much decided which ever bar I am currently in is good enough for me .

Happy hour at the Perch in St. Martin is pretty good in my book.

Could not agree more but the fun bars in the Philippines are somewhat X-rated and difficult to recommend.

Photos are definitely out )

So what are your three most favorite bars or pubs you've stopped along the way?
I've been to a number of the noted bars (mostly in the Caribbean, Key West etc...) I still prefer drinking on board in the cockpit of my own boat or others. The bottled beer still tastes the same and the wine flows without too much money flowing out of my wallet. Getting bit up by mosquitos and noseeums gets old real fast too! Other than social interaction I see little need to head to shoreside bar for libations. But, maybe that's just me. I enjoy the solitude of being on my own boat.

Re: Poll: Favorite Bars and Pubs

Willy T is my favorite, so far- great service and food, good drinks and lots of fun people
I'm sure I will find another favorite when we start cruising next year.
I also agree on Soggy Peso- Isla Mujeres- great service and margaritas, good chips, salsa and guacamole
Saba Rock- Virgin Gorda- great service and the best happy hour in BVI
Cow Wreck Beach Bar- Anegada- great service and food, beautiful beach, make your own drinks
Happy Endings- Cabo San Lucas- great service, good tacos and fun people
Tiki Bar- Cabo San Lucas- good service and margaritas, breat fish tacos and sushi
Smokey's BBQ- Singapore- great service and Texas BBQ, good wine and craft beer selection

The pub at Swanwick Marina on the Hamble is a favorite.

Davis Pub in Eastport, Annapolis, MD.

Queen Anne's Revenge in Beaufort NC.

Re: Poll: Favorite Bars and Pubs

O'Conner's Pub - Doolin, Ireland -Lots of good Irish music, good people and lots of fun. Downside - You'll have to drop the hook in Galway and figure out how to get to Doolin. Then again Galway has a few good pubs too.

Le Navigateur, Toulon, France - Close to the docks, well within staggering distance. Music is ok if you like disco

Penelope's in Alicante, Sp - nice place for a beer and to watch people, close to the marina.

Almost any cafe around Platia Eleftheriou Venizelou, Chania, Crete. - Nice sidewalk cafes for a cold beer and people watching.

Davis Pub is a pretty eclectic place and where you will find locals.

Were you around for the Marmaduke days? What a great bar!

I still have a 'dukes shirt that only comes out on very special occasions. I have never been anywhere that was as great a sailing bar as Maraduke's Pub. Remember the videos of the Wednesday night races? I was on the blooper reel for nearly a year. *grin*

Yes indeed. I'm sure we crossed paths then. Wednesday and Friday nights were my usual.

I gave away my shirt awhile ago but still have the red Mount Gay hat made for Marmaduke's.

Is Davis' the old wooden tavern with the great Prawn and Onion boil basket?
