Pan for grill ??

Hi All , looking for a basic pan for the magma grill. (eggs, grilled sandwich, veges, etc)

trying to avoid a heavy Lodge cast iron one.But some help in the non stick category is helpful..one thing a nice old cast iron one kinda provides. Surprisingly I'm having a hard time finding something to suit me.
What do you all use? Trying to stay outside with the cooking as much as I can.

Getting things together as I'll be living aboard in April through the fall. Thanks!

Re: Pan for grill ??

We have a nesting set on board, stainless with encapsulated aluminum heat sinks in the bottoms, and they work fine on the outside grill... depending on relative sizes. Check Welcome Aboard (.com) but they're much less expensive at other places. Defender, I think...

The Orgreenic pans advertised on TV may work. If not, the $$ to test won't hurt much.

I have 2 Pampered Chef omlet pans, I use them on the electric stove on my boat. They're no-stick easy clean up, they should work on a grill. For frittatas I have a couple from a set I got at WM years ago, the handles are removable & I'll use them in the oven. They are also non stick.

Great, thank you gentlemen . I will look into them . Funny you mention those green ones I saw them and thought they might work. With normal non stick I was afraid of use on a grill. Would be nice to have 1 pan for stove and grill.

Re: Pan for grill ??

One of the things I would really recommend is getting a good heat diffuser to cook on. Particularly when cooking on a grill. Boat stoves are notoriously uneven, and grills are terrible as well. A 6"x6" 1/4" copper plate (available at any metal supply place) will eliminate the uneven cooking, and make it much easier to turn out good food.

Plus, if you are trying to save on pans, it reduces the need for copper clad bases on every pan, since you in effect have an external one.

Re: Pan for grill ??

I went through this recently trying to get a good large pan for at home. I ended up getting a new Henckels on Ebay for a song. It seems very durable, and is the ultimate chefs pan, SS with non stik coating....but it is very heavy even though it is SS not Iron. Heavy thick bottom. Frankly, I think the answer is the 3 size frying pan set at Costco for $30. They seem to cook well, and if they only last 3 years throw them away. Lighter too!

Re: Pan for grill ??

I'm pretty happy with my Cuisinart nesting set. Bought it right here in the classifieds. These are not nonstick pans. Every bit as good quality as my Cuisinart pans at home - the difference as I can see is that the nesting set has quick-detach handles.

Thanks again everyone, so nice options. Great idea for the diffuser on the grill and makes sense.
Been doing a lot of reading and has been hard to find specific one or two pan options as I don't need a set. So thanks again !

I guess most important is what is a list of safe kinds for the grill as its pretty hot? I assume what works on a home gas stove is fine though.. Correct?

Re: Pan for grill ??

This topic got me looking
Found this that looks to be almost identical to the Magma 10 piece
at half the price.
Amazon.com: Stansport Premium Quality Stainless Steel 7 piece Deluxe Family Cookset: Kitchen & Dining
Great reviews besides a handle issue that seems a universal pain with nesting sets...

Correct, although you'll want to also consider sometimes you'll likely be using the grill as an oven rather than stove top.

The Omnia Oven looks pretty cool for a grill oven.

Re: Pan for grill ??

Hey Zee - do you "oil" the pans after you clean them? I heard that's the best way to keep cast iron good in the salt air.
