My favorite provisioning trick

If you're provisioning in a U.S. port, especially if you don't have a car, look into the many food supplies offered by Amazon. Shipping is free on most orders over $25 and stuff goes right to the marina. I find items and brands there that are not available in local stores and buy in case lots for the free shipping. Look for the words "eligible for free shipping" in the listing because items shipped directly from their suppliers may not ship free.) If you have special needs (sugar free, organic, non GMT, gluten-free, etc.) this is the most hassle-free place to find them. Amazon doesn't have the biggest and best selection of long-life and survival foods but it's an ideal source for many staples as well as specialties.

Re: My favorite provisioning trick

Thanks. Great tip. I have purchased all sorts of stuff from Amazon but admit I had not thought of them for food items.

Have to go browse a bit to see what they've got.

Re: My favorite provisioning trick

Janet, thanks for your info. As usual, you are fabulous resource. May I ask if you have a source for canned bacon or butter?

I love love LOVE amazon.com. We were at the Marathon Marina for two months and we set a new record for number of packages received by any boat - mostly from amazon.

and if you're in Europe, Amazon.co.uk does free shipping on items over £25 too.

Re: My favorite provisioning trick

I use amazon prime, $70 buck a year and you get free 2 day shipping. If you have a .edu email adress (or know someone who does) you can get this free for one year. Also you can get one day shipping for 3.99 per item. You have to use it enough to make it worth it, but for quick port stops Also, free amazon streaming TV and movies, limited selection but free.

Re: My favorite provisioning trick

I've used Amazon a lot over the years but never would have thought about using it for food! Thanks for the tip Janet.
