Muffins

Hello... I have a fav muffin recipe but a 2 burner propane stove, no oven. Can you make muffins somehow with this set up? I have a pressure cooker...

You should be able to use a pressure cooker -just experiment and see what happens.Try google at muffin,pressure cooker,recipe.
As an aside,how do you like your Brent Swain sloop?

My grandmother had a metal box that served as an oven that she used atop the stove. It had a shelf inside and an over thermometer. She baked bread, pies, and cakes with astounding accuracy. It was nothing complicated ... five sides and a door.

Jim, thanks for that post. I was thinking of rigging up something like that for the top of my woodstove. The only thing I can't cook on it are baked items. With that said, I may go ahead and do it.

Would a Dutch oven work? (Sean, that would mean that, in addition to placing the Dutch oven on top of the stove, you'd need to take some coals out of the stove and place them on top.)

So Kevin... are you saying that the 5 sided box and the dutch oven would work in a similar way? For example, that a dutch oven needs those coals on top, so also the 5 sided box would?

If so, that does make sense. I wonder though... if I could get the temperature in the box up to maybe 400 degrees without using the coals on top just by convection (and some radiation) from the stovetop surface...

So long as the top was well insulated... maybe?

This might be one for experimenting with. With a built in oven thermometer and rack, you could do breads and wood fired pizza... WOW!

As a note to the original post/question: You have a cool Brent Swain designed metal boat, so I'm assuming you know your way around a welder? Maybe give our whacky oven idea a try?

...thanks for the comments. A box atop the burners sounds worthy of a go.

Regards Swain Sloop ....it has only been 2 years since launch and we have both had the **** scared out of us from a gale in Hecate Straight to me reading tide tables incorrectly and shooting through 2 narrows' like greased **** through a goose... Very rugged piece of work...so far so good.

Last week my captain made banana bread using our pressure cooker so I think you could do the same if you didn't mind adapting a muffins recepie to mor of a cake-shape. Just make sure that you put some sort of release in your pan (nonstick butter/spray and/or corn meal) and cook on low heat to avoid scorching.
