You mean those terrible additives like the food additive E290 (which is apparently destroying the planet) and the dreadful DHMO (which kills many people every year) and NaCL, to say nothing of that horrible 8-methyl-N-vannillyl-6-nonenamide.
Yep, chemicals should be banned completely:

OK, guilty as charged . A few non vegan cake recipes did creep in (I have a weakness for cake as well as chocolate), but to avoid upsetting the vegans reading this thread, I have now moved the offending cake posts to here:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ke-116488.html
Apologies for the thread drift, it has now been fixed .
A couple of recipes mention a touch of bacon and an egg, but a little leeway should be allowed. Otherwise more than 90% of the recipes ARE vegan. SailFastTri, do you you have any favourite recipes to contribute? .

re: Mouthwatering Boat Recipes (mainly plant based)
Lol its no secret to me, vegemite is nutritional yeast in a goo form. I got the taste first time i tried it. All the description of nutritional values are the same also. So if your on a whole food diet skip the vegemite with the added ingredients and just have nutritional yeast. My rule when I go is everything in my shopping cart has exactly one ingredient. No added anything. It starts with the Gombs plan and blossoms to more in season fruits and veggies from there. Gombs = Greens onions mushrooms berries and seeds. course theres always brown rice and beans in the pantry. I buy those by the 50lb bags at way reduced per lb prices. the beans get put up canned in mason jars so I dont use so much propane when im away from a refill station.

Orange almond cookies
I am back on track now with another 100% vegan boat recipe . With the sugar content, I don't promise that this is "healthy", but it is certainly good for the soul (and sugar does fit in with Forsailbyowner's rule of selecting food containing only one ingredient when filling your shopping trolley, although I am sure that is not what he meant LOL).
I have made a pot of green tea with organic peppermint leaves grown on the island of Tilos and I am munching very happily on these cookies as I am writing this. Hull preparation is finished for now and I just have to do some last minute preparation and packing. We are flying out of Greece tomorrow. The sweet treats I have made in the last few weeks have certainly made the tough work easier to cope with!
ORANGE ALMOND COOKIES
Rind 1 orange
1/3 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
6 drops natural almond extract
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 cup instant rolled oats
1 cup ground almonds
- Whisk together the first 5 ingredients.
- Add oats and nuts.
- Drop 20-24 lots onto baking parchment then form into rounds and flatten slightly.
- Bake at about 175°C for 12 minutes. They will firm up when left standing 10 minutes on the tray. Don't overcook them as they will end up dry.
- Dust with icing sugar.
I few of these cookies didn't even make it from the tray to the plate :

re: Mouthwatering Boat Recipes (mainly plant based)
One of my favorite things to make and eat is made with chick peas/garbanzo beans. I have no recipe with precise amounts as I normally cook by taste. Its very simple to put together and lends itself to variety.
chick peas/garbanzo beans
canned tomatoes (homemade or store bought)
sliced green peppers
diced or sliced onions
minced fresh garlic (powder will work too if fresh is not available)
basil (fresh is best but dried works as well)
nutritional yeast
salt
pepper
oil of choice for sautéing
Sauté the garlic, onion, and green pepper in oil of your choice (I like the flavor of olive oil in this dish). Add remaining ingredients and heat through. Serve as is or over brown rice or whole grain pasta.

re: Mouthwatering Boat Recipes (mainly plant based)
This thread is driving me to eat!!<smile>.....What we need is a way to put all these recipes in order formatted for easy printing so I, and others can find the one we wish when we want to. There are some very good recipes within this thread and they need to be honored in a book.
I just got around to finding the time to make the chocolate cake recipe posted earlier and I cant find it now.....grrrr.. Gave me the idea to suggest we organize these recipes into and easily searchable format

Good suggestion .
I have compiled an index and made this the first post in the thread.
The Zucchini chocolate cake recipe was moved to this thread (post #8) after complaints about the inclusion of non vegan recipes :

re: Mouthwatering Boat Recipes (mainly plant based)
Making a rod for your own back, SL, as you'll now have to update the Index with every new recipe posted.
Perhaps if peole try the recipes they could take pics of the finished product (some hace, some haven't) and we could eventually merge pics with recipes and emd up with an "online cruisers cookbook"...???
For free....

Go for it .
You are welcome to use all my recipes and photos (and they have all been made afloat).
I agree more photos would be great. I find the picture rather than the description generally inspires me . More recipes would be fabulous too.

re: Mouthwatering Boat Recipes (mainly plant based)
Ummm....
We'd need others to supply pics of what they cooked up.....
And you'd need to check with the Chief Mod Squad gurus to see if it is possible to retrospectively add pics to posts......
So maybe check that's do-able, and see how we go from there.
I'm thinking a "mod. locked" Sticky thread called "Online Cruisers Cookbook" where we could amalgamate recipes and their respective photos, but only the mods could do so, and that way it would not contain any chatter.
We'd confine chatter and such to THIS thread, and simply extract the "Recipe Gold".
But as I ain't no moderator.....I cain't do it.
You still there, SL..?? Hello..?? SL...???
