Monarch Rum

Can the term Monarch and Rum really be used in the same sentence..

FWIW Im drinking it ..and it seems to be as efective as superior brands in the end results..so I was just wondering if it has an approval factor here with you fellow scallywags or if Im just a cheap scape low life and should disregard our current economic woes and buck up.

Whats your favorite brand?

and cut with margarita mix does it matter anyway... who wants Friend status...I'm buying!

Heck, if its cheap and gets you drunk, who can complain? I like Brugal. Cheap in the D.R. but expensive in the states. Very smooth.

Liberty, I agree with you. While hardly a connosuir of rum, I do prefer rums made by more traditional methods out of raw sugarcane, rather than refined sugar (as is the case with most domestic products). Essentially, I follow a 'when in Rome...' philosophy when travelling in traditional rum-making areas. Herewith some of my favorites:

Bermuda - Gosling's

British Virgin Islands/Bahamas - Pusser's

Cuba - Havana Club Reserva

Dominican Republic - Brugal

US Virgin Islands - Cruzan

St. Martin/Sint Maarten/ - Busco

Antigua/Barbados - Mount Gay

St, Vincent & the Grenadines - Captain Bligh Golden

Grenada - River Antoine

Venezuela - Cacique

Although in a pinch, virtually anything but cheap 'white lightening' type rums, or overproof 151's will do.

I use to tell people that I hated the buzz and that I just loved the taste of beer and if the buzz wasent there I'd drink it anyway...the older and honester I get with myself in life I have decided that is not altogether a true statement.

My favorite rum, Don Q, is the best seller in Puerto Rico but not easy to find on the mainland. We used to buy it by the case at the destillery for $4.25 a bottle. I like it with water and a wedge of key lime.

My favorite rum is also the oldest rum in the world and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I've gotta love Mount Gay rum. The spirit of the islands (Barbados), over 250 years of distilling to finally figure it out, and you can buy it for a dollar ninety five cents and get two free pair of socks. Wotta deal.

Gosling's Black Seal rum -from Bermuda - is very good, but can be hard to find.

Ron Del Barrilito Rum is the best I have ever tasted. But hard to find. It is a Puerto Rican rum. Small distillery, has 11 employees

Ahhh, blessed rum! I remember when I was seventeen and was at the Fleet Club when I joined the Navy and was trying to figure out my drink that was to define me and the waitress came up with a rum and coke and a trick of the lighting illuminated it like a beam from heaven, well, I never looked back....lol

OK...Well, I never knew there was even such a thing but it only makes sense now that I think on it...shoot there is somewhere a taste off for everything I suppose.

Being a beer man myself... up untill about 3 or 4 years ago I could honestly say that I had only ever been in a liquor Store once in my life..well Im up to a whopping 4 times now and am close to maxing out one hand..Im debating now rather to stop there or pull the other out of my pocket.

There does seem to possibly be a worthy cause to test the accuracy of the judges choices and pallets...although on the other hand I care not to ever taste fish eggs again no mater how fancy a name or how highly rated some judges opinion on the matter, for as long as I shall live.

Not being a straight spirit drinker Im sure the wounder and nuances of it all would be lost on me somehow though...I am not however much of a pop or soda man either for that matter as the concoction brings on a horrible hangover.

For me it seems the margarita on the rocks is really the only mixed drink of choice as the blended version gives me the dreaded freeze headache..and yes I will admit, it is a counterfeit version at that when made with rum and not tequila which I can not stand either.

But out of duty to have a quality nip aboard for future well educated paletted guests I guess a bottel or two of something drinkable with out the foo foo cut water is in order...

Looks like Im going to max out that hand count sooner or later... maybe buying by the case would help as well...
