What is the best container you have found for making and storing icecubes underway in a top load freezer

We use ice cube bags

not the most ecologically sound, but I've yet to pony up the cash for the vertical ice cube trays.

I just use ice trays. I have found the camping ones that have a top seal best as the moisture doesn't transfer to the evaporator plates and frost them up. Then I just transfer the cubes to ziplock bags

Three of the vertical trays came with the boat, they need a lot of water run over them to get the ice cubes out or maybe just leave out for awhile.
I bought the plastic bags like what was linked to above, but they are hard to get the little saucer shaped cubes out too.
Plan was to use the $99 ice maker I bought on Amazon to make ice when we run the generator and store the cubes in zip lock bags.
Surprisingly the little ice maker only pulls 45 watts, pretty efficient thing, I can easily run off of inverter.

Vertical ice trays. Lay them in the cockpit for a few minutes on each side and the ice slides right out.

Two things we do:

1) Use giant silicone balls. For example, the ice from one of these lasts through at least two drinks in an uninsulated cup:

2) We learned a trick from a friend... fill a 16 ounce plastic soda bottle with water and freeze. Cut into slices with a bread knife when needed. This works very well.

Just a little planning ahead! Unless you have limitless hot water. Takes all of maybe five minutes.

IIRC, REI sells them for less than WAECO.

I like these little Tupperware containers. or freeze fruit like grapes and cantaloupe cut into cubes.

I don't have a freezer, but other boats do and sometimes I look after some of their empty space so it doesn't go to waste

For your question: I personally like the plastic bags best - tho I do feel guilty for using even more plastic.

Apart from that, I'm a big fan of the silicone ice thingies and freezing fruits.

I only drink water or some home made fermented drinks; I'll usually fill the plastic ice cube bags with whatever drink I'll be using them in. That way they don't water down my drink Another alternative for that are the silicone ice cube thingies.

This is the method we use. Partially fill a strong Zip Lock bag with water, and fix it against the holding plate (we use heavy spring-loaded clamps on the copper tubing). Even in the refrigerator, we'll have ice in less than 24 hours, even in equatorial climates. Sundowners are so much more civilized with ice.

I just ordered these, I don't like plastic, but if it can be re-used over and over, I don't mind it so bad.
