Laundry Ball

Has anyone heard of a "laundry ball"? It promises clean clothes with no soap. I ran into it at the county fair. If it works it sounds like it could be wonderful. I have written to ask if it works in salt water but so far no answer.

you can't wash clothes in salt water! If they dry they'll be stiff as a board and will absorb moisture if there's a bit of humidity in the air.

None of those quick, easy laundry things work well. If you're seriously thinking of doing laundry aboard ( and do not have a great big boat with washer and dryer) the best thing you can get is a good quality hand wringer.

What is wrong with salt water for washing???? dont you like stiff and scratchy underwear??

If you have a sturdy 5 gal bucket and lid, put clothes, detergent and water in that, seal the lid and trail it astern letting the wind chop at anchor bounce it around. Then rinse/wring it out and let it dry! Works pretty good. We most often found it more fun to take the laundry to town and let someone do it for us though... everything's an adventure! Sometimes it comes back perfect and folded and sometimes it comes back with rust stains!

I'm sure you can wash clothes without soap, the same as you can shower or bath without soap. The result depends upon your definition of "clean", as well as how dirty things were to begin with.

I was surprised to find they are quite common. Amazon has them. Not cheap though.

Laundry is an issue living aboard and when the Admiral's not happy, no one is happy. So I installed a watermaker and a small washer. Life is good.
