I buy the microwaveable popcorn pouches and empty contents into a skillet with lid and put on burner. In 5 minutes you have the same results as 2 minutes in Microwave without the power needs or space. So never found need for microwave. A toaster oven seems more versatile to me for reheating, browning and such and less space consuming, but I have neither.

And in Crimea there is no Ginger Ale to be found. Interesting what can not be found. Will start a thread on this topic.

It is really a choice between lifestyles: Cruiser or condo? Your choice.

Had a Toaster oven in my H37... thought it was great on the hard while I was prepping the boat for sea... never used it again after I left the States... its 220v in most the rest of the world..

Right! Wimps. throw out the stove too, all you need is a surplus can opener and a fork. Rough it, make it harder!

You mean I have to get rid of my Spork with built in can opener in handle end?

Toss em.

Have never had either on the boat and have never missed them.

Propane energy is much easier to come by then electricity required to power the two.

Cook/heat/toast on the stove/oven or to keep the heat and you out of the boat out on a BBQ.

Have fun

Re: Keep or toss Toaster Oven and Microwave?

Thanks everybody for the great input. Next time I visit the boat, which should be just a day or two, those things are coming out. I may keep a standard toaster for those special occasions.

Can't wait to get to Mexico

Cheers, Bill

Hans Christian owners unite!

No toaster or microwave over here either. We have a stove top toaster that works well enough for toasting bread if you're quick on your witts and keep flipping the bread.

To the original poster I came down here last year, singlehanding to banderas bay and then as a family we've been putzing around and just got to muertos (east cape, sea of cortez side baja).

It's been an absolute hoot. If you have any questions hit me up.

But the folks who don't have them seem to have all the latest electronics, like AIS ect ect. So I guess you can be tough with somethings and not with other things ?? I think this will make sense for some, but we like our fresh bread and ya can do some great things with fish in a toaster oven !! Just our old lazy 2 cents LOL
I just never used those things on land either. I'd use the toaster sometimes but the stove top piece does the job well enough and microwaving never seems to cook anything properly. We make a ton of simple meals in the fry pan, pot, or pressure cooker.

A microwave is brilliant if you can power it underway. , steamed vegetables ,soups, does a lovely job of cooking potatoes , rice , pasta , sauces, hot milk for SWMBOs coffee. I'd say I've used mine more then the stove.

Same at home too.

Toaster ovens burn down your kitchen

Re: Keep or toss Toaster Oven and Microwave?

I have a proper toaster - I like decent toast. I have an electric kettle, an I have a microwave/convection oven.

But I do have a large inverter, and 555w of solar, and a generator.
