If I were cruising, I'd do sprouts, herbs, and fast-growing greens such as mesclun, and start experimenting with the potato bag and hanging tomatoes, depending how long I was in one place.

If anyone is growing tomatoes or other vegtables while cruising I'm interested in knowing the details. I've thought about herbs, tomatoes and a small varity of squash (such as rond de nice.) We will be on a catamaran so I think we'll have the room.

My husband thinks I'm out of my mind to try to garden while cruising but as long as I keep mentioning chickens (for eggs) he forgets about the vegtables.

I have grown herbs for many years on the boat. Basil, chives,thyme,coriander. I do find that very find long ocean passages hard going, anything over 6 days calls for special attention. When underway everything is wedged in to one of the heads where it can be safely watered and tended out of reach of salt spray.

When in more settled parts I grow salad greens, the cut and come again varieties. I have tried tomatoes very succesfully but they take up too much space.

Seed sprouters are great and if all else fails we grow mustard and cress.
