My Pappy had a bigger one just like it back up in the hills of North Carolina.

The concept is fun, but depending on the fuel type and efficiency, you need about 1 gallon of fuel for each 5-8 gallons of distillate produced. You also need to keep an eye on it.

good point but if you're that thirsty, you ain't drinkin cooking fuel.. also bottled water probably as much as fuel nowadays

Yeah, but I suspect it was not pure water he was interested in ;-)

The cruise ships use flash evaporation, but I couldn't figure out how to scale it down. I once tried to run the numbers to see what it would take to flash salt water to steam using just waste engine heat. Turns out creating enough vacuum was the issue, not to mention designing a pressure vessel that could hold the vacuum AND capture the distillate even on a rocking boat.

A little corn mash adds to it. Seriously it looks like a good thing if water is gone but LPG is not.
