Ice in Mexico

Guys, I am closing in on go time! I hope to buy the weekend after this at the latest!

Of course I still have not settled on a boat.

Regardless, I am looking at a price point (total spending- could be all in the boat or could be boat+stuff) that puts me right at the "maybe fridge, maybe icebox" threshold. I was wondering if anyone could speak on the subject of ice in Mexico from a cost/availability perspective.

Can I get it just about anywhere? In block form? Is the price a roughly predictable translation from USD? If so, it should be "just about free" and just a case of how easy to get it is. If not, how badly stung and how often will it be?

Could I possibly justify buying a fridge and sufficient battery/charging tech with "ice costs a lot"?

Thanks,
J

Ice in Mexico costs about the same as it does in the US. But, remember that it's likely to be contaminated.

Sadly you still can't drink the water in much of Mexico including many major cities. The main problem is usually bacteria. When in frozen form bacteria are inactive, but once the ice melts they wake back up and at that point it's no different than having tap water.

If you know for sure you are going to be spending lots of time down there, you may want to go for the fridge and if you need ice, buy one of those under $200 counter-top icemakers and use the water from your watermaker.
