Re: How Big is Your Refrigerator?

He must have a problem with his battery bank . Maybe it's being deficit charged and has a major sulphate build up on the plates. You need to check specific Gravity of every cell in the bank to find out whats wrong.

Re: How Big is Your Refrigerator?

You can get solar for 27 cents a watt now from ebay Thats real cheap. Batteries are your gas tank so you need enough to get you through the night and a little more .Thats maybe 4 to 8 golf cart batteries.New small freezers pull just over 50 watts. Make ice with it next to your frozen food and put extra ice in your cooler. When you take frozen food out of the freezer ,put it in your cooler to thaw and keep your food cool without having to use up your ice supply. You may want to have ice for your drinks. A MPPT charge controller a must. A good inverter has low consumption. Shop wisely.

I don't think I'd put 4 or 8 GC6's on a 27 foot boat. A pair of them, 140-200W of solar, and a good inverter would likely run a dorm fridge for quite a while. Add in some shorepower time and you're fine.

Yeah 8 would be a bit much for that size of boat but 4 wouldn't be to heavy. You can buy 320 watt panels for $99.00 from eBay. You can't have too much solar. You can still make power on cloudy days with solar. It's so cheap now you should have it where ever you can fit it on your vessel.
