If the coffee is too light, I just add more dark rum.

You can roast delicious coffee on board (above deck!) using a popcorr popper. A little trial and error and you will be able to perfect your roast, and never suffer from bad coffee again.

big heavy pan, not to high a flame, stir CONSTANTLY, cause it will burn. Take it off when it likes how you like it.

Re: HELP ! Coffee Not Roasted Dark Enough . . .

What are you using to roast them in? An old-style popcorn popper with lid and hand-turned crank works quite well as you need to keep the beans in constant motion to prevent scorching. Once they are dark enough for your espresso (dark, but not very dark brown), remove from heat and place the beans in a colander to cool. If you have two colanders pour them from one to the other and back, preferably up on deck. This will help them cool and stop cooking from internal heat. Any wind will also help remove chaff.

You should, during roasting, check the beans frequently after the first crack or snap occurs until the desired darkness is reached.

If you end up burning some, keep the burnt beans - you can use them as anti-mosquito, anti-wasp, anti-nosee'ums, anti-pretty much anything that flies.

Grind them, then put them in an ashtray or a metal dish and light them up so that they're smoking. The smoke will drive anything flying far-far away.

They use that methode here in resturants in the mountains of Lebanon to control the bees...limited success.

I guess Lebanon bees are already used to it. In Turkey it works very well...

Zeehag: gotta tell us how it works in your place!

Re: HELP ! Coffee Not Roasted Dark Enough . . .

Save the bunrt beans, sell 'em to Starbucks fans.

No matter what they do...I like a heavy roast too, but that stuff is simply burnt coffee. When you drink it black, burnt is burnt.

Re: HELP ! Coffee Not Roasted Dark Enough . . .

anyone who is not up for roasting their own and is looking for a great place to buy coffee...

Armeno Coffee Roasters

i would suggest speaking with john parks, guy knows everything about everything and can help select the perfect bean / blend based on your tastes.

question: how many replies will it take for somebody to suggest that burnt coffee beans are the ideal pirate repellant?
